Modeling agencies are difficult to navigate, especially in Los Angeles. Not everyone gets to join the roster at Ford. Luckily, you don’t have to sign with a worldwide modeling agency in order to become successful. In fact, you may not want to. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a boutique agency, as long as your agent is a professional and treats you with respect. Smaller agencies have a greater motivation to hustle. They want you to be their big break just as much as you do! If you’re new to the game, a smaller agency may be the way to go. If you’re in L.A., here are some brief recommendations…
Nous Model Management
117 North Robertson Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90048
Open Call on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-4pm.
Establish in 1998, Nous Model has established a known presence as a boutique agency. Owner Kenya Knight really takes pride in her agency’s family-style management. If you’re looking for a family, they’ve got you! Just ask @luvalyssamiller, who recently made the cover of Elle Magazine with their support.
3450 Cahuenga Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90068
NewMark is a great agency for young women who aren’t necessarily paper thin, 5’11” runway models. This agency seems to appreciate a swimsuit model, sure, but packaged with a big personality. For example, @nadia_mejia was Miss California USA in 2016 — a model, sure, but a good ol’ American girl with plenty to say too.
8631 Washington Blvd
Culver City, CA 90232
Open Call on Tuesdays from 3-4pm.
A little tip: this agency has some A-listers, so stop here after you have an offer from another agency. Vision Models has grown tremendously with models like @bridgetmalcolm, who walked the Victoria’s Secret runway in 2016.
No Ties Management
1300 Highland Ave #218
Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
This agency is home to @rocky_barnes, a blogger and instagram famous model with 1.1 million fans. For those of you who are starting out, No Ties is more interested in your level of influence than your catwalk.
820 North Fairfax Ave
Westwood Hollywood, CA 90046
Open Call on Wednesdays from 3-5pm.
Known for her bushy brows and tomboy-ish character, @martathemartian suits the offbeat persona of Freedom Models. If you have an edge or a quirk, the agency will likely embrace you with open arms.
Best of luck to you! Check each agency’s website for more details on submissions, but before you do, do you need a portfolio? Or are you seeking additional modeling advice? Join The Hub to access an incredible community just waiting to help you out!
