Pregnancy is such an exciting time for a couple. Even if you don’t feel your best, the 40 weeks tend to fly by. Professional maternity photography will help you remember how you felt and looked during this time. Having professional maternity photos taken can be a great way to bond with your partner or have an older sibling feel special and included.
A professional maternity photographer will know how to pose you so you look your most radiant. They will help style your outfit to show off your bump, and some even provide gowns and other maternity wear to help you feel beautiful. The best maternity photos are usually taken 28 to 34 weeks into your pregnancy.
Emily Weaver Brown specializes in newborn and maternity photography. Her studio is located in the Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle. Her style is described as “fresh, modern, and organic” and she strives to capture the unique personality of each of her clients.

Weaver’s goal is to make the women she works with feel beautiful, authentic, and comfortable. She is known for her gorgeous and tasteful maternity nudes, but she encourages you to do whatever you are most comfortable with. She has wraps and shirts to choose from and suggests that you bring a few things you feel great wearing.
Partners and older children are encouraged to attend the shoot and will be incorporated in the photos. She recommends that maternity shoots take place between 32 and 36 weeks pregnant, when women clearly look pregnant but tend to still feel good.
Weaver’s signature sessions start at $300.

It is a beautiful 1200 square foot space with tons of natural light, exposed painted brick, and gorgeous high ceilings. Bursch loves incorporating props into her space and she has wardrobe, furniture, and fresh flowers on hand. It is a serene space designed to spark creativity and relaxation.
She suggests wearing clothes that make you feel your best, however, she does suggest avoiding logos as they may date the photos. Many photographers caution against wearing patterns, but Bursch encourages you to wear whatever it is that you love, even if it is a pattern. For maternity shoots, Bursch encourages clothes that show off the belly, as it will be the focal point of the shoot.

Dana Pelleg is the founder and the heart of Red Poppy photography. She has practiced photography for over 15 years, but it wasn’t until she had children of her own that she turned her practice to newborn and maternity photography in Seattle. She works both in her Queen Anne studio (primarily with newborns) and on location for most other shoots. She loves photographing outdoors and believes that being outside captures “natural and dynamic” pictures.
Pelleg says one of her favorite places to shoot maternity photos is in Discovery Park at sunset. She is also open to shooting in your home if that’s what makes you most comfortable. Grey, cream, and neutral colors photograph well, and she asks that you avoid neon colors or orange and hot pink, as those colors tend to reflect light poorly and do not print well. Most of her clients wear a long dress for a portion of the maternity shoot, then change into another, more casual, outfit.
For inquiries or to book a session, you can email Pelleg directly at email@example.com. Her typical client spends anywhere between $500 and $2500 on their photography package.
