One-Woman Show: Being And Creating Magic, A Q&A With Model Kimberly Douglas
It’s one thing to be a creative director and a photographer, but it’s another to be a model and a set designer and conducting an entire photoshoot alone. We’re talking about doing hair and makeup, styling, set design, creative direction, photographing, and editing — all of it.
We recently stumbled upon Kimberly Douglas — @kihmberlie — and immediately fell in love with her art and talents and needed to know how she creates her magic.

You are a creator who really stands out to us, with the way you direct, model for, and photograph your shoots. That’s true talent right there! Do you have a passion for all of that or do you prefer doing one thing over another?
Thank you, my passion is definitely modeling over everything, but set design has become a close second ever since I started taking my own photos.
When did you start this creative career?
I created my first shoot by myself in 2016 when I graduated college, but I started doing this consistently around a year and a half to 2 years ago.
What do you use to shoot and edit?
To shoot I use the Canon EOS Rebel T6 or my iPhone (I have the iPhone 7 Plus) and I edit on Photoshop and Lightroom.

Is it hard to come up with these photoshoot ideas or does it come naturally? Has anyone contributed to these shoots or are you just an incredible one-woman show?
Most of the time they just come naturally, I’ve had my creative blocks, so during those times it is definitely hard to think of new ideas. As for anyone contributing, definitely God – He helps me out a lot.

Any words of advice for anyone following in your footsteps?
Get ready and be patient. It takes a lot of work and faith doing everything yourself when you don’t have anyone to help you, but when people start reaching out, work with them, collaborate and make dope connections and don’t lose faith.
What do you hope to accomplish before the end of the year? Are there any brands or people you’d want to work with or for?
I definitely want to get signed with an agency before the end of this year, the one who believes in me that’s the one I want to get signed with and hopefully to get sponsored. I would love to work with/for Nike or Adidas, either one would be amazing, and it’s a reach but I would love to be on the cover of Wonderland Magazine.
