We All Want To Fit In: Human Camouflage Project At H Studio
We all want to fit in.
Lady Dee, also known as Idayat Ibrahim, is the jack of all trades. As a creative director, producer, and a stylist, Dee’s mind is behind the photo series WE ALL WANT TO FIT IN: (pt.1) HUMAN CAMOUFLAGE, WE ALL WANT TO FIT IN (pt. 2): DON’T LOSE YOUR SANITY, and WE ALL WANT TO FIT IN (pt. 3): SELF LOVE! I CHOOSE ME.

According to Idayat, this is a project dedicated to the mental health of those who are struggling to find themselves, in a society that promotes being like everyone else and following the trend, just to fit in or be accepted.
WE ALL WANT TO FIT IN (pt.1): HUMAN CAMOUFLAGE
“Camouflage, also called a cryptic coloration, is a defense or tactic that organisms use to disguise their appearance, usually to blend in their surroundings. Organisms use camouflage to mask their location, identity, and movement. This allows prey to avoid predators, and for predators to sneak up on prey.”

“As humans, we find ourselves “camouflaging” just like the chameleon, to adapt to environments and societal standards in order to fit in to what we as individuals think is socially appropriate. In the process, we tend to loose our original identities because we are too busy studying trends, and what the next individual is doing because they’re receiving all the attention, or as we call it “clout”, and as a result, we do what is necessary so we don’t feel left out. Feeling the need to belong is psychological and every human being has those feelings in their life. But do not let it define you and do not loose your own given identity and your sanity, in the sake of being accepted or loved. You are enough!” -Idayat

“Those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it.”

“According Joanna Cannon, a psychiatrist, ‘community support is a huge protective factor in mental illness patients. People are much more likely to remain well if they have a network of compassionate individuals around them. Isolation is a risk factor, not only for developing mental health problems, but also for exacerbating pre existing conditions. It’s not easy being a goat in a world full of sheep.’
Instead of living our lives in monochrome, it might be more fulfilling to search for color, and the variance, in those around us, and we can then allow ourselves to be accepted for who we really are – not for the fragments of our character we allow people to see. Don’t loose your sanity, choose you and choose happiness. Either way, know that there’s someone out there that loves and support you and your existence matters.” -Idayat
